AirSoft Infantry Tactics
Basic overview of infantry tactics in general:
Ever since militaries around the world started using firearms in battle, the tactics have changed from armies facing each other and firing volleys at one another to urban combat utilized by today's military. In this article we will explain in detail depth the basic tactics that every airsofter should know. These tactics are room clearing, leapfrogging, and defensive positioning. I will explain every tactic in detail and hopefully answer some questions.
Room clearing:
Depending on the game made or battlefield, this tactic is mainly utilized in the indoor battlefields. This is a very simple but difficult tactic to learn and master. The concept of clearing a room is that a group searches a building for any opposition hiding in the rooms of a building. The difficulty of room clearing is that there is a higher possibility of you and your squad getting ambushed by the opposing force. In airsoft there is a minimum engagement distance between forces. Here are the steps for room clearing, search high and low, check behind corners, and do it in a timely manner. Sometimes the opposing force might use airsoft claymores in buildings in order to prevent clearings. If you don't want to be noticed by the opposing force the happens to be in the building, don't say anything that is louder than a whisper, only use hand signals. On to the next tactic.
Leapfrogging:
Leapfrogging is a nickname given to a tactic because of the way it looks when being used in battle. Why is this tactic called "leapfrogging" you my ask. Well leapfrogging is when one person runs to a piece of cover in front of them and while the point man is running their battle buddy behind them covers their run from behind. This tactic can be used in any battlefield or battle scenario. This tactic is a very effective and organized tactic for getting around the battlefield and completing a mission. To use this tactic effectively you need more than one person to implement this tactic, even an entire squad can use it to move in an organized and collected fashion around the battlefield. This tactic is mainly used on the offensive but it can also be used on the defensive. Let's move onto defensive positioning.
Defensive positioning:
Defensive positioning is a tactic of getting behind cover and waiting for an offensive attack from the opposing force. Defensive positioning has the "Alamo" idea where you make your last stand and try to defend the position. This position should be taken up behind thick cover and should be utilized when being over run by a force bigger than your own. A defensive position can be taken up in many places around a battlefield, such as a building, a group of trees, or anything your squad can fit behind. Your squads defensive position should have a good amount of firepower, ample supply of ammunition, and more than one person behind your defenses. The tactic can be used as a main form of defense for your unit, this all depends in your units playing style and how long the game duration is set to.
