Bonus Article: The Difference Urban and Woodland Snipers
Differences between woodland and urban settings:
Before we get into the nitty gritty of the urban and woodland snipers. We need to understand first, the difference between the woodland and urban setting of combat. Let't dive right in into the types of air soft combat settings. The combat setting can vary from urban (house-to-house and street-to-street) and also to the woodland setting, which is more of a hide and seek style of combat. To start off we need to break down the difference between each setting of combat. First lets break down the woodland combat style and setting.
Woodland style and setting of air soft combat:
The combat scenarios you can do are endless. Combat scenarios like search and rescue, defend the post, search and destroy, and so much more. The battle you have in the woods is a slower pace playing style than the urban setting. I know playing styles vary from person to person. But there is a different mindset to woodland combat, a different type of camouflage style, and different types of cover in woodland combat. When you are in woodland combat situation you need to check the area for dangerous objects lying around, the availability of cover, high and low ground positions, and so much more, those are the main ones you need to look for in the woodland battlefield. All you need to know is have the mindset, the right camouflage, and check the area before you engage in battle. Now lets move on to the urban style and setting of air soft combat.
Urban setting and style of combat:
Combat scenarios that you can play in the urban setting are also endless. The urban battle of air soft is a faster pace style of combat than the woodland style of combat. With the urban setting you and your team are dealing with clearing houses and fighting in the streets. The mindset you need to have when engaging in urban combat is different but has some of the same things to check for, than the mindset you need to have when fighting in the woods. In the urban combat environment you still need to check for the amount objects lying around, high/low ground positions, amount of cover, and whether or not your every move is being watched by the enemy. The camouflage style is different (depending on the player). The tactics are totally different than woodland combat tactics. Urban tactics like clear the building, search the building, and repeat the process. With building clearing, a clearing team infiltrates the building, and clears each room, looking for if the opposing force has any of its men in the rooms. If the clearing team finds any opposition, they will take out that opposition. Street-to-street combat is a lot of running, stopping, and firing. Your every move is most likely being watched. Cover is limited when you are fighting street-to-street. Since we have now broken down the woodland and urban style of combat. Let's move on to the different types of snipers.
Woodland snipers:
Woodland snipers play more of a hide and seek type of style. The sniper will most likely find some high ground like climbing up a tree (if the game style and reff. allow it), upon an embankment, etc. The sniper will use the appropriate style and type of camouflage, needed for him/her to not get spotted. From what I know and from what I have seen, a woodland sniper tends to play on the defensive and stays in the same spot (some snipers do move from their spot). A woodland sniper, the sniper and the other players on the field have a wide variety of cover choices. Cover and camouflage are the most important things to an air soft sniper, whether the sniper is urban and woodland , camouflage and cover saves lives. Let's break down the urban sniper next.
urban sniper:
Urban snipers play more of an aggressive defense. With playing a more aggressive , urban snipers are close proximity to the opposing force and their snipers. The sniper located in the urban environment, cover is all over the place. The best kind of cover, is the highest point on the battlefield. The typical urban sniper will post him/herself in a window a couple stories above the battlefield. Again gain the high ground on the battlefield. The style of camouflage that is used by urban snipers can vary from digital camouflage all the way to woodland camouflage. The main camouflage style, that I have seen in the urban setting, is digital camouflage. Sniper and the type of playing style are the one's that control the bigger battle. The sniper needs to take out the opposing force and take out the guys on the ground . The job is to protect his/her's teammates and their position, with accurate concentrated fire from above.
Hope you guys enjoyed this bonus article to the Sniper article series. I will do another article series but not on the sniper, but on the history, roles, and tactics of the ground forces. ShantyMan signing off for now. ShantyMan Out.
