Sniper Tactics
What is a sniper?
A sniper is a concealed marksman, who uses a high powered scoped rifle and camouflage to blend with his surroundings. The concepts behind a sniper are very complicated but in the world of air soft there are only a few things that a sniper needs to take into consideration. The sniper is basically the only guy that you need to protect (depending on the game mode you are playing). In this article we will dive into the basics of what it is to be a sniper.
Camouflage
Camouflage is the most important thing to master as a sniper. Camouflage hides you in plain sight. There are different types of ways to camouflage your self and your weapon. You can
- make your own gillie suite
- face paint
- natural holes in the ground
The camouflage you use needs to reflect the area you are playing in. If you blend in and you don't stick out like a sore thumb. The camouflage you use is based on personal preference and research. Camouflage is an art in it of itself, a master sniper uses is surroundings and camouflage to make himself invisible. The snipers camouflage and his weapon can save his units life (if there is a line of communications).
How to use cover?
Cover can literally save your life. The cover you use can be based off of your personal preference and what environment you are playing in. Cover is best used to your advantage when you are in the prone position. The prone position makes you a smaller target for enemy snipers and infantry. The most cover that is used in air soft is the use of urban situations and woodland environments. Air soft is most commonly engaged in woods and in urban maps. The concept of cover is were you hide behind a fixed object like a wall, tree, car, or out in the open out of range if the standard air soft rifle.
How to support your units sniper?
The units sniper is the most important element of the unit. The unit needs to establish a clear and clean lines of communication leading to the sniper. The communications network needs to relay information on the movements of the opposing team to the sniper, so the sniper knows when and where the opposing force and who he/she needs to take out. There should also be another sniper that can assault the opposing force and also switch out with the current sniper so that he/she can have a break.
what style of gun a sniper should use?
The typical style rifle a sniper uses is some sort of bolt action rifle that shoots 550 fps. The rifle can be totally based off of person preference. The bolt action rifle is most commonly used as the main sniper rifle of choice in the air soft community. The firing mechanism in the bolt action can be a spring, CO2 powered, and green gas powered. Most air soft retailers sell sniper rifles with a bolt action. Choose a sniper rifle that best represents you and your playing style.
