When it comes to CQB, knowledge of room anatomy is critically important. Many CQB tactics, techniques and procedures (including communications among entry team members) utilize a common understanding of what defines a target room. Attached are a couple of diagrams that reflect room anatomy as it relates to a simple multiple room structure and from the standpoint of an entry team breaching through the front door. I hope they are helpful in illustrating some of the more important terms in defining a target room. Please note that I identified outside windows as potential threat areas under the assumption that the building was not completely cordoned off prior to the entry team's breach.
